I used to be an ispiring Flash animator but I threw it all away for Photoshop and making music, something I sometimes regret but Newgrounds will always be in my heart and in my memory as one of the few websites with BALLS.

This isn't going to be anything fancy I just came to say what too few people are saying.

I watched The Hurt locker with my mom. Half an hour into the movie we realised that there's no plot. No plot, seriously, an anti-bomb squad in Iraq is driving around and dealing with bomb-defusing missions. A car sets on fire, they snipe a few guys, there's 5 min scene where the main chracter goes looking for some kid and comes back, something that has nothing to do with the story, but then again there isn't a story. And that's about it - there's no villian, there's no obsticle to overcome, no great dialogue, no structure, it's just stuff happening. The acting was good though, in fact the movie with the huge exception of HAVING NO PLOT is a quality movie.

The so called 'intense' scenes were kind of boring, but that's a matter of opinion so I won't go into that, here's the real problem of this movie;

As the movie did nothing I sat there I wondered what it was trying to convey, so it dawned on me that it might be showing us what day to day life is for American troops in Iraq. I tried watching the movie in that context so in tht sense the movie had a point as it had some message at the end as this one guy actually showed some character development...

...but, when I read about the movie on Wikipedia what do I find out? The movie is unrealistic and in fact soldiers and reporters have complained about it, this destroyes all credibility this movie had and instantly fails at sending me a message.

It's simple - a movie that strives for realism, only that it's not realistic, is a failed movie. So enjoy your Oscar movie, I'm happy for you and your piece of shit director that e-mailed people to vote for his film and was thus banned from attending the Oscars.

The Oscars have been stupid before, but this year takes the cake, first of they nominated 10 movies, wich I'm sure had nothing to do with their rating dropping over the past few years (More bait, more fish, eh?), second many of the movies, liek The Hurt Locker, did not deserve to be nominated in the first place...

-Avatar;
I enjoyed it, okay movie, didn't deserve to be nominated, but it did deserve Oscar for best FX, maybe even one for best director because it looked like a beast to make.

-District 9;
loved this movie, it was refreshing to see something original when everything sci-fi was out of comic books, video games and 80's toons, allas not Oscar worthy, though props for the FX, but liek I said Avatar pwned in that category.

-Up,
yeah hi, I don't know if y'all noticed but this isn't a fucking movie, it's an animated feature, they have their own category, what's the point of having a seperate category if you can put a movie in both categories anyway? That's like being at a pet show and they give a cat the best dog award because it looks like a dog.

-Up in the air;
seriously, what? This movie is good why? Because it's about firing people in a time where a lot of people were actually getting fired? Because of George Clooney? I didn't even finish this movie, I just walked away and went home to my room to play some guitar, it was a better and more entertaining use of my time.

Except for Inglorious Basterds those were all the nominess I saw. Inglorious basterds is a good movie, deserved to be nominated, but only nominated because I can't say I like the new Tarantino movies, with the old and classic Tarantino flicks I had nothing to complain about, I could just watch the movie and injoyed it, with the new movies every now and then I went 'Why did they do that, that could have been done way better'.

-Mark

PS
If you don't agree with me I dont' want to hear about it, go watch a re-run of the oscars or read any movie blog, preferably one that likes to kiss the public opinion's ass.
